1) Coco-Cola Invests $1 Million in Driver Training Programs

The Coca-Cola Company recently announced that it plans to donate $1 million to a truck driver training program at the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). Company officials hope the donation will allow the college to hire 11 full-time and a couple of part-time instructors.

The donation also helps to supplement the $8.32 million from the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund for investing in facility upgrades. The goal of these donations is to help reduce the truck driver shortage.

2) Biden Administration Begins New Initiative to Promote Clean Trucking

The United States plans to begin a five-year program designed to limit pollution in the trucking industry by encouraging more states to invest in electric vehicle support at truck stops. Florida is projected to receive over $320 million in funding, while Texas tops the list at more than $641 million in funding.

Using advanced truck stop electrification systems isn't only beneficial for the environment, as it helps to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion.

3) New Bill Introduced to Eliminate Overtime Exemption for Truckers

A Michigan congressman recently introduced the Guaranteeing Overtime for Truckers Act. The new bill is designed to undo the overtime exemption for truckers from the Fair Labor Standards Act, which was implemented in the 1930s.

Currently, the bill has numerous Democratic cosponsors, and it also has support from one Republican. The main goal of the bill is to allow truckers to receive overtime pay, which can help reduce the high turnover rate in the industry.
