Our goal is to give you a quick overview of the most impactful stories in the transportation industry each month.

Here are the top three news stories impacting inland freight shippers.

#1) Can the Uber Model Transform Freight?

New digital platforms have the potential to cause significant disruptions in the transportation industry. However, the "Uber Model" in the freight industry could see a slow rollout. This delay is mainly due to small companies not having the resources to invest in building their own digital platforms. Traditional approaches will continue to dominate freight logistics in the near future, although the shipper/carrier connection will continue to evolve into a more direct conversation.

#2) Demand Roars Back to Life, Though Potential Ditches Lie Ahead

State lockdown orders due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus caused a significant decline in freight demand. However, load volume on the spot market has soared, and rates are expected to jump upward after falling to the floor in April.

These rates should become much higher throughout June as they recover from record lows in April. Only time will tell if this momentum will continue for the rest of the year for inland freight shippers.

#3) Panel of Shippers Look at the Question of YRCW's Fate

YRCW is a carrier that has been dramatically impacted by the COVID-19 virus, as they were forced to suspend health benefits for employees last month. The freight company is also having difficulty in paying employees for work performed in April and May.

Many inland freight shippers are concerned about the uncertain future of YRCW due to their financial situation. You can read the article at this link.
